Post Metal - The Key Players

Post Metal – Key Players:
To add some colour and meaning, here are some of the most important and influential bands in the genre. With sights and sounds.

Neurosis: The founding fathers; it has been said that they almost invented the scene with their 1996 album Through silver in blood.

Melvins:  Another of the founding fathers. An incredibly prolific band who continue to release creative and influential albums despite being around for the last 25 years

Godflesh:  Justin K Broadrick electro-industrial monster. Incredibly influential, with everyone from Trent Reznor to Korn to Faith No More to Ministry citing them

ISIS: The successors to Neurosis’ throne? Despite breaking up at the end up 2010, it’s hard to dispute their legacy (Worth watching the video in HD if possible)

Jesu: If there was anyone out there, pushing the envelope further into unknown territory, continually blurring the boundaries, its Justin K Broadrick’s Jesu

Cult of Luna: Despite a lack of touring, they remain a touchstone for their peers

Pelican: The only band on this list that is completely instrumental. They have created a niche all of their own, 2009’s what we all need to come is their best work to date
Rinoa: A newcomer on the scene, with the release of their critical acclaimed debut An Age Amongst them they have positioned themselves at the fore front of the genre

The Ocean: With the double release of Heliocentric/Anthropocentric, The Ocean have created their masterwork, and the best two albums of 2010

Mastodon The most successful of all the above mentioned bands after recently signing to Universal and with Brendan O’Brien as producer, who knows where they will go next, what a long strange trip it’s been….

Baroness – A contender for album of year 2009 with the release of the blue album, their next move if highly anticipated

Converge– Definitely on the more extreme side of the fence, but with a strong artistic and philosophical vision
